Sen Abe's Statement Against Dakuku : A brotherly Love Laced With Mischief - Chima Nnokam
Chief Chima Nwenenda Nnokam has described Senator Abe's Statement against Dakuku Peterside as brotherly Love Laced with Mischief. Statement he released to Sphere Watch reads :
"In times of great moral crisis, the hottest part of hell should be reserved for those who choose neutrality" Dante.
I read with a bit of cringe, the statement made by Sen. Magnus Abe on his Facebook wall accusing Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, DG NIMASA, of collaborating with the organizers of the Free Rivers Rally in Khana to fix the event on the same day his Thanksgiving was billed to hold. Naturally, I would not have reacted to the Senator's emotional paroxysm as it was not directed at me, but for the intent of setting the records straight, I have taken the burden to state the facts of the matter and to inform the public properly.
Without mincing words, Sen. Abe's statement, for all intents and purposes, openly betrayed his professed claim of brotherhood with Dr. Dakuku Peterside and very repudiating, to say the least. I would have expected the Distinguished Senator to adopt a private means of communicating his grievances to his supposed brother instead of taking to his Facebook to do so thereby, portraying Dakuku in bad light before the public.
For the records, I was privileged to join Dr. Dakuku to Mombasa, Kenya on a National assignment where he presided over the second session of AMAA executives meeting. He literally had to walk his tail off to be in Lagos over the weekend for an Award Night organized by NIMASA. After we arrived Lagos from Kenya on Friday, I had expected Dakuku to rest and plan for the NIMASA event holding at Eko Suites in Lagos State, but I was shocked to see him on Channels TV the next day addressing a mammoth crowd at Khana, where he managed to attend the event, with his leader and Boss, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Honourable Minister of Transportation. Again, Dakuku had to leave Amaechi at the Rally a little after mid noon and hurriedly boarded a flight back to Lagos for the NIMASA event.
In the circumstance, it was practically impossible for Dakuku to have attended Sen. Abe's thanksgiving. Would Sen. Abe had expected Dakuku to abandon his own NIMASA event in Lagos - an event that had the SGF, Oba of Lagos, Ministers, Governors, Senators Captains of industries and others in attendance - to attend his Thanksgiving? Or would the Senator had expected Dakuku to abandon his political leader, Amaechi to join him for his Thanksgiving? Clearly, the Senator expected too much.
It is important to point out here that Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside is neither the DG nor an executive member of Free Rivers the organizers of the Khana Rally to have known its programme, so Abe's claim that Dakuku may have joined the organizers to coincide the rally with his thanksgiving is not statesmanly. Abe ought to know that a program that was transmitted live on a popular TV station like Channels, could not have been put together hurriedly. Dakuku is a man who understands followership and loyalty, he is a man that would never betray or bite the finger that fed him. What he did was to simply show his support to a man who has shown him so much benevolence by squeezing time out of his tight schedule to join his boss to the rally in Khana. The Senator should try and accept this in good faith.
The Dakuku I know could not have discussed with Senator Abe or anybody whatsoever about who fixed what event First. Dakuku’s integrity is unblemish. Dakuku or just any APC member is not in chains , is not facing any dilemma as Senator Abe tried to portray. Dr Dakuku is an adult who is free to make his own choices. He has chosen Abe as his friend and CRA as his master on a mission to liberate Rivers State from the missapropriation and misapplication of its resources by a profligate government. It’s all about choices.
I am surprised at Abe's expression of displeasure over Dakuku not attending his Thanksgiving, when he has repeatedly avoided all functions and engagements of the Party and its leaders in the State. Abe was visibly absent during a dinner and reception organized by friends of Amaechi to commemorate his 54th birthday in 2017. Abe was no where to be found at the send-off ceremony of his kinsman and brother H.E Ambassador, Orji Ngofa in 2017, Abe was also conspicuously missing at the 48th birthday celebration of his friend and brother, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside in December, 2017.
What's more? The same Abe deliberately avoided the Victory Thanksgiving in honour of Amaechi to commemorate his 10th Anniversary since the 2007 landmark Supreme Court Judgement that saw him become Governor. Only recently, the Ikwerre Youth Movement, IYM, organized a reception in honour of their son and Leader, Amaechi in January this year, where leaders drawn from across the State and beyond were in attendance, yet again, Abe was absent. Just a couple of days ago, the Wife of the Minister of Transportation, Dame Judith Amaechi through her NGO, ESI in collaboration with NDDC organized a graduation ceremony of beneficiaries trained in different skills across the Niger Delta, yet Abe was not in attendance. Sen. Abe has no moral justification whatsoever, to demand that Dakuku and others attend his thanksgiving.
It is sad that at this point in our political journey to emancipate Rivers State from the firm grip of misgovernance, Sen. Abe is seen forging unholy alliances with the same man who we seek to unseat from the Brick House. Abe's Polo Club Thanksgiving was never intended to thank God in ernest, it was merely a show off of new political alliances and a test of his strength.
I humbly advise the Distinguished Senator Abe to embrace only activities that promote unity and strengthen the Party instead of dividing the Party and hobnobbing with the PDP under the guise of politics without bitterness - a grossly misapplied strategy. The Senator cannot be factionalizing the Party and expect it to be united only when it serves his purpose.
Half a word is enough for the wise.
