ASALGA/AKULGA Federal Constituency 2019: It Is Either Victor Or Tulutu!

ASALGA/AKULGA Federal Constituency 2019: It Is Either Victor Or  Tulutu!

Kenson Kenneth Ibialabo-Briggs

Legislation is not for the dimwitted, neither is it for the cowed. The enormous responsibility of legislation should never be bestowed on the chicken-hearted, nor should it be entrusted to cowards, weaklings and fair-weathered individuals.

The act of legislation is for the brave-hearted, the outspoken, the courageous and those who says what they do and does what they say. Legislative practice needs one with high level spiritual, social, financial and emotional intelligence. It should be set aside for those whose integrity stands the test of time.

For three years and counting, the Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency of the House of Representatives had been silent, grossly under-represented and utterly neglected. Members of the constituency had become like a sheep without shepherd. The bundle of benefits accessible by the people through her representative had eluded them all. This is a resultant effect of arm-twisting electoral officers, intimidating the electorates and imposing unpopular & ineffective candidate on the masses.

I can without prejudice say that when Dr. Dawari George was cruelly rigged out, he left with our voice as a people. Since then, the Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency had remained voiceless: No viable constituency project, no legislative bills, no motions, not even a single town-hall meeting, let alone empowerment programmes. We are as hungry and as lonely, truly, like a “sheep without shepherd”, vulnerable, defenseless and helpless.

But come 2019, that will be a thing of the past. We shall keep our sorrows behind. Our dim faces shall be lit up once again. Our blue days shall be forgotten, because we shall present Hon. Victor Tulutu Briggs, as our voice.

Hon. Victor Tulutu Briggs is the Joshua that will take us to the Promised Land. He has the courage, the vigor, the boldness, the charisma, the intellect, the leadership quality, capacity and experience to effectively represent us at the Green Chambers. Victor Briggs is a man with a passionate desire for the growth and advancement of his people. His works speak volumes of his benevolence.

Hon. Victor has employed hundreds of Rivers sons and daughters especially of the Kalabari extraction. He has sponsored budding talents, aspiring youngsters and individuals with potentials. Tulutu has given scholarships to pupils, students, undergraduates and post-graduates from start to finish. He has introduced so many empowerment programmes and thousands have benefitted directly and indirectly from them. His foundation, the Victor Briggs Foundation, has carried out several health schemes, educational projects and skills acquisition programmes. The amount of benefits accrued from these initiatives is enormous.

Sending Hon. Victor Briggs to the Green Chambers is more like sending the entire people of Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency because no one will be left behind. He is a man of the people, loved by the people, and the people come first in all his actions. He can never be cowed and will never compromise our interest.

No man can love us more than we love ourselves, and so, if we are certain we do really love ourselves, in our best interest, we must all strive to ensure Hon. Victor Tulutu Briggs speaks for us at the Federal House of Representatives come 2019. It is a task for everyone because everyone will have a fair share of effective representation.
