Ekpeye Youth Assembly Condemns 14 Day Ultimatum By Factional NYCN Chairman To NDPR

Ekpeye Youth Assembly Condemns 14 Day Ultimatum By Factional NYCN Chairman To NDPR

The Ekpeye Youth Assembly in Rivers State has strongly  condemned a 14 day ultimatum issued to the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources(NDPR)by a factional Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ahoada-East chapter led by one Victor Mannah.

In a statement issued by the President,Comrade Bright Ezebalike, warned that any attempt to disrupt the activities of the Multi-national company will be resisted by the host community youths, adding that such threat is capable of driving investors away from the area.

The group noted that the burden of employment and empowerment is not part of the responsibilities of NYCN,adding that the youth group should focus on its mandate rather than looking for cheap popularity and attention.

The statement further stated that host community youths should be allowed to deal with their issues if there is any, rather than people wanting to reap from where they didn't sow.

The group, however called on the State Government and other security agencies to investigate the activities of the NYCN because their threat is capable of creating tension and heightening  the level of insecurity in the area.

The group said in a recent survey carried out by the Niger Delta Situation Room, the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources(NDPR)has demonstrated enough capacity in carrying out her social corporate responsibilities towards her host communities.

They appealed to the management of NDPR to keep on engaging the host community youths in the areas of employment, empowerment and human capacity building as to ensure a peaceful coexistence between the communities and the company.

They added that violent  threat can never be a panacea to resolving issues but a constructive  and peaceful approach can be adopted to tackle issues of concern.

The statement said it is very wrong for a youth group to threaten the operation of a company, while the federal and state governments are battling with insecurity and such threat can increase the level of insecurity in the Niger Delta.

He appealed  to the management of NDPR  and the general public to disregard the said ultimatum  and apologized to them for the embarrassment it may have caused them.
