The Federal Government of Nigeria has restated optimism that the commitment statement from the Global Maritime Security Conference 2019 to be known as “Abuja Declaration” will go a long way in solving the challenges associated with the Gulf of Guinea.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Sabiu Zakari who stated this while speaking to newsmen during the recently concluded London International Shipping week noted that the conference would serve as platform for effective partnership to achieve a lasting solution to the challenges of security in the region. “We welcome the world to Abuja for this conference.
Nigeria as the largest nation in the Gulf of Guinea has taken the lead by accepting to host this global summit where all stakeholders in the maritime sector seek to agree on a actionable agenda to resolve the challenges of the Gulf of Guinea. We believe that those nations who had similar challenges in the past and were able to resolve them will share their experience.” He said. Just as piracy issues in Somalia waters and Gulf of Aden were resolved, very soon, the issue of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea will be resolved.
