She held marathon meetings the better part of Thursday evening that stretched into the wee hours of Friday which though continued later same day until about 1.00pm. Then after a little rest, she led her guests, the Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Godswill Akpabio, CON, and the Minister of State, Festus Keyamo SAN, to the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, at about 2.35pm. The Honourable Ministers held an interactive session with management and staff of the Commission.
For Dr. Akwagaga Lelegima Enyia, the Ag. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, CEO, NDDC, the long wait, the hi-wire but strategic meetings which stressed deep into the nights, the stress, the apprehension all was worth the while as she received both commendation and handshake of the Honourable Minister. Akpabio was moved to give Dr. Enyia the handshake of commendation at the 23-year old headquarters project site of the Commission. Moved by what he saw being ongoing work and the MD's earlier address that she had worked out a weekly work plan that should see the contractor deliver the project by December 2019 rather than the June 2020 as proposed by same contractor, Akpabio commended her for returning life to the behemoth of a project. The last time a semblance of construction activity took place on the project was in October 2018, and ever since then, nothing happened. But under 3 weeks she came on as interim CEO, Dr. Enyia has made it her signature project that must be commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in a few months time. Akpabio was impressed with Madame MD's drive.
But that was not Akpabio's first handshake of approval of Dr. Enyia's programme so far. First was during the interactive session with staffers of the Commission. Dr. Enyia had made workers' welfare that include resolving arrears of staff promotion and payment of retirees' emoluments, priorities. Akpabio commended her for the plans and approved her proposals. In fact, it was an excited Akpabio who directed that implementation of her workers' welfare package should commence "next week".
When completed, the facility will not only house NDDC workers, but will also generate revenue for the Commission as banks and other commercial ventures will rent part for their operations.
