Bayelsa State APC Gubernatorial Candidate David Lyon Gives Insight About His Person
David Lyon

Read below as Hon David Lyon (Apc gives brief insight)  about his person. :

I was born 49 years ago in Olugbobiri in Southern Ijaw Local Goverment Area (SILGA) of Bayelsa State. I had a humble upbringing and grew up among a people that emphasized love, hard work, diligence, peaceful coexistence and principle-centered living.

Through toil and self-help, I attended St. Gabriel's State School 1, Olugbobiri and obtained my First School leaving Certificate (FSLC). I later enrolled into Community Secondary School, Olugbobiri and passed the Western African School Certificate Examination (WASCE). My dream for a higher education propelled me to be admitted into the River State College of Education, where I bagged a National Certificate of Education (NCE) Degree in Mathematics and Chemistry.
Over the years, I have gained enormous political experience both at the community and partisan levels. My early political involvement was driven by the need to mount non-violent pressure on Multinational Companies, to live up to their social responsibilities and to protect the degrading Olugbobiri environment. Owing to my dynamic, visionary and non-violent approach to resolving conflicts, as well as my unflagging dedication to community interest, I was elected as the Youth President in 1996. During my tenure as Olugbobiri Youth President, I galvanized the boundless energies of our youths towards productive activities, and synergized with stakeholders and corporate entities to radically improve the quality of life in the community.

Furthermore, I ventured into party politics in the Third Republic in order to find a bigger platform for social change and transformation. I joined the defunct National Republican Congress (NRC) and won the Councillorship election of Ward 4, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (SILGA), but it was aborted by the then military government in 1997. Undeterred by the military incursion, I continued my political journey and became a founding member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in SILGA. My dexterity, astuteness and collaborative skills in politics paid off when I was appointed as the Care-taker Committee Chairman of Apoi Olodiama Local Government Development Center in year 2000. My brief tenure as Care-taker Committee Chairman witnessed an unprecedented surge in development, peace and stability. I am a card carrying and financial member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who is committed to the governance values and transformation programs of the party.

Furthermore, I am a humble organizational man and a global key player in the oil and gas industry. Over the years, I have acquired entrepreneurial competences and corporate acumen. Moreover, I have facilitated and co-created socio-economic value by building synergies between multi-national oil companies and host communities. Specifically, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Darlong Security Company Nigeria Limited, I have partnered with Multinational Oil Companies to generate employment for legions of youths in the state. In fact, my company, Darlong Security Company Nigeria Limited is the highest employer of labour in Bayelsa State, after the state government. It is also the single most contributor to the State’s Internally Generated Revenue by any indigenous firm in Bayelsa.

Lastly, I am a core philanthropist that have extended help to several communities and individuals in terms of scholarship, bursary, construction and rehabilitation of rural infrastructure, payment of hospital bills, disaster intervention programmes, amongst others. I am a devout Christian, and I am married with three children.
