IGR: Lagos, Rivers top list as states, FCT generate N691 billion for H1 2019
The 36 states in Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) generated a total sum of N691.1 billion in the first half of 2019.
This is according to the recently released Internally Generated Revenue at State Level for Q1 and Q2 2019 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Top 5 states with the highest IGR
Among the states with highest internally generated revenue include Lagos, Rivers, FCT, Delta, and Ogun States.
Lagos State generated the largest share of N205.1 billion, which is 29.7% of the total IGR. Increasing on a year-on-year basis of 4.46%.
Rivers State came second with N75.97 billion, which is 10.99% of the total IGR. Increasing by 24.74% when compared to H1 2018.
The FCT followed with N38.57 billion, which is 5.58% of the total IGR and increasing by 9.46% when compared to H1 2018.
Delta and Ogun generated N36.39 billion and N29.58 billion respectively. Both states contributed 5.27% and 4.28% respectively to the total IGR. Increasing at 22.13% and -30.42% when compared to H1 2018.
Ogun State had the lowest growth rate, with its H1 2018 IGR being 30.42% higher that H1 2019.
Top 5 states with the lowest IGR
Gombe state came first from the bottom with N2,09 billion, contributing 0.30% to the total IGR and decreasing by 12.83% when compared to H1 2018.
Yobe was next with N2.2 billion, contributing 0.32% to the total IGR. The state’s IGR – unlike Gombe State – increased 36.14% when compared to H1 2018.
Taraba state came in third with N3,27 billion, contributing 0.47% to the total IGR for the period. Increasing by 25.22% when compared to H1 2018.
Borno and Kebbi states generated N3,917,848,074.57 and N4,728,501,342.76 respectively and contributed 0.57% and 0.68% respectively to the total IGR for the period.
5 States with the highest and lowest growth rate
On a year-on-year growth basis – that is growth rate when compared with the previous period – Zamfara State came first with 171.34%, generating N7,210,062,254.23. Kebbi came second with 132.44%. Osun followed with 113.77% (N10,205,102,028.94), Sokoto 113.75% (N12,077,025,746.68), and Ondo with 101.77% (N19,001,563,646.74).
On the flipside, Ogun, Bayelsa, Anambra, Enugu, and Gombe states all had negative growth of -30.44%, -14.53%, -14.07%, -13%, and -12.83% respectively.
