The Federal Commissioner representing Rivers in the Public Complaints Commission Hon. Marshall Israel on Monday 2nd and Tuesdaysday 3rd March 2020 attended THE INTERNATIONAL OMBUDSMAN INSTITUTE WORKSHOP in Barcelona Spain.
The Workshop with the Theme: “ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS - CHALLENGES, FUNCTIONS AND MECHANISMS", aims at facilitating dialogue and meeting points between operators and large companies, public administrations, Ombudsman offices and civil society in order to get everyone together to design the human rights base on the rules that will guide us in the years to come.
The workshop was facilitated and organized by International Ombudsman Institute Europe Chapter and the Catalan Ombudsman
in collaboration with Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Digital Future Society and relevant Human Right Agencies in Europe.
With the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a starting point, the changes that our societies undergo due to technological innovation and developments need to adapt the conceptual frameworks and norms without forgetting the concepts of ethics and solidarity and other values deeply rooted in our societies.
The great opportunities and challenges in the application of artificial intelligence in our daily lives must be accompanied by specialist agents control to safeguard and protect the rights of specially the most vulnerable people but globally of everyone.
It was an opportunity for the committed, dedicated and result oriented young Federal Commissioner to build more capacity, foster relationship, networking and exposure to International best practices and improve International understanding and diplomacy in relation to handing and resolving Complaints.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner has shown capacity and competence within and out Nigeria and has revived the Rivers State Office of The Public Complaints Commission. This is another milestone achieved by the Rivers born Ombudsman.
