Partnership with NPA Onne Ports, key for Sustainable Development
The Youth Initiative for Empowerment and Welfare Creation team, paid an advocacy visit to the Port Manager Nigeria Port Authority, Onne Port, Alhassan Ismaila Abubakar.
The objective of the visit was to establish cooperation between the two organizations and other agents, to ensure compliance to sustainable development programs, practices and agenda.
Helping to reduce anti social vices and providing meaningful means of livelihood for youths through deliberate interaction, advocacy and engagements with industry operators.
The team was led by Comrade Abiye S George, Executive Director, of the Initiative for Youth Empowerment and Welfare Creation, Mr George thanked the Port manager ably represented by Mrs Nchey Achukwu Barbara Ejemeh -Principal Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communication for accepting to receive IYEWC. Then he briefed the Port management about IYEWC projection for the Authorities if they were to partner with the group.
He shared the organization concerns on the African Continental Free Trade Zone Area (AfCTZA), Ease of Doing Business, NLNG Train 7, Sustainable Development Goals and Security. Mr Abiye stated that the collaboration will position the NPA globally in fulfilment of it's mandate and to present the leadership of NPA to be youth development friendly.
He continued by stating that such partnership would bring sanity to Port activities through the recent increase in Port activities, there by increasing revenues and helping to reduce anti social vices and providing meaningful livelihood for youths.
The highlights of the meeting bordered around partnering with host youth groups.
A succinct and eloquent blueprint for partnership, detailing programs, strategy and impacts.
The Port manager expressed readiness of the ports to partner on the African Continental Free Trade Zone Area (AfCTZA) and SDG goals. Mrs Nchey Achukwu Barbara Ejemeh- Principal Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communication, lauded the group for this excellent initiative and desire to impact society and warned that the group must lift others for the them to rise. She stressed that it is expedient that the group get along with other community based groups on board, as the Port Manager is ever willingly to support youth development programs in line with their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which is a trait of his leadership.
The Ports Traffic Manager, Mr Prince Zhattau further reiterated the need for the AfCTZA and SDG goals partnership and advised the group to deepen partnership with stakeholders for maximum exploration of gas for local utilization owing to the large gas opportunities. He traced the history to other failed attempts like this to youth disharmony and disenchantment and warned that if we must succeed we must avoid historic pitfalls.
At the end of the visit, the team posed for a photo with members of the ports management. The team included Comrade Abiye S George, Mr Freedom kodam, Miss Juliet McPhilips and Mr Sogules.
