Re:Governor Wike lifts curfew placed on parts of Port Harcourt

... We thank Dr. Inye Marshall Harry, others for speaking up - FARN

We, at Fresh Agenda For Rivers and Nigeria are excited about the announcement that the Rivers state Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike has lifted the curfew imposed on parts of Port Harcourt, including Education Bus Stop to Agip Junction along Ikwerre Road and Obiri Ikwerre Junction to Ozuoba, Rumualogu and Choba, effective April 3, 2020.

While also delighted that the illegal suspension of the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and his Deputy have been lifted, we are urging the state to quickly release, and unconditionally too, the over 150 unsuspecting Rivers state citizens so far arrested in the course of the curfew.

We are grateful to statesmen who have continued to speak up at this time, and air their views on the happenings in the state, particularly, Dr. Inye Marshall Harry.

We urge Rivers people to continue to maintain healthy living standards and adopt every measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

Again, we reiterate that it is very cruel and callous to shut down markets in the state, leaving the masses without any palliative measures, alternative market arrangements and worse still without salaries and incentives.

Government must immediately roll out the palliative measures to address these issues in order to avoid forcing people to their graves through hunger and deprivation. This is not the time for rhetorics or words without immediate actions.

Fresh Agenda For Rivers and Nigeria calls on the Government to see this outbreak of Covid-19 as a wake up call to give urgent attention to the Health sector in the state and upgrade the hospitals to world class standard to enable the state harness the billions spent on medical tourism, yearly by Rivers state citizens.

The poor sanitary conditions in the state since the inception of this Government has further exposed the people to the pandemic. This is the time to look with retrospect and take seriously the issues bothering on sanitation. There could be no better time than now to overhaul the State's Sanitation and Waste Management Agency.
