RIVERS STATE OMBUDSMAN COMMISERATE WITH THE FAMILY OF LATE SERGEANT LOVINDA ELEKWACHI AT ISU-ETCHE,
RIVERS STATE.

Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission Rivers State , Hon Marshall Israel and his team visited the family of late female Police Sergeant who was shot dead on duty at Eneka roundabout in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State by a trigger-happy Police Officer.

Hon. Israel who commiserated with the deceased family and assured them that the agency under his watch in Rivers State will collaborate with the security agency to ensure that Justice is served in the matter. "I am here to condole and commiserate with the family of our sister Late Sergeant LOVINDA ELEKWACHI who was killed by a trigger-happy Police Officer. I am worried as a Nigerian but as an Etche man, I am more worried. If you know what it means for a Police Officer to grow to a Sergeant, then you will understand the gravity of our loss".

After handing over an undisclosed amount of cash to the family, Hon Marshall Israel encouraged the family members to know that no amount of Justice, prayers and condolences can bring back their beloved daughter but should depend on God who knows the end from the beginning. "Mummy, I lost my elder sister when I was in secondary School and I remember it was difficult for my mother to endure and carry on. I can understand your pain and frustration but you must know that no amount of Justice, condolences and prayers can bring back your daughter. Only God can heal the wounds and close the vacuum her death has created. I therefore urge you to take solace in God like my mother".

To the happy-trigger Police Officer, Hon Marshall Israel called on the Nigerian Police to ensure that Justice is done to serve as deterrent to others.

"The Commissioner of Police, CP JOSEPH G.M has demonstrated Commitment and empathy by visiting you. In fact, the Police Press Statement was reassuring as the Police Officer has been tried internally and dismissed. He was taking to court today and remanded. We will collaborate with the Police and relevant agencies to ensure that justice is done. It will serve as a lesson to others".

The PCC boss in Rivers State also urged the Police to look inward and fish out some of it's officers who are tarnishing the good image of the police.

"In the course of my job as an Ombudsman, I have encountered many decent, honest and smart police Officers. If you see them, you will fall in love with the Police and may want to join the Police. But there are few bad elements and characters in the Police who act as if they come from the moon; as if they don't have families and relatives. This microscopic few can unleash brutality on the people without thinking twice. I urge the Police to fish out these elements and punish them through the law. They are tarnishing the good image of the Nigerian Police.

In her response, the Mother of the late female Police Sergeant, Mary Elekwachi called for justice over the death of her daughter, late Sergeant Lovender Elekwachi

Mrs. Mary ELEKWACHI said the untimily death of her daughter who was the bread winner of the family has left a vaccum in the family.

The berevead woman while commending the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, JOSEPH GOBUM-MUKAN called on well meaning Nigerians and Government including security agencies to ensure that the family get justice and those she left behind do not suffer. She also thanked the Rivers State Ombudsman Hon. Marshall Israel for coming to commiserate with the family this period of mourning and agony.

The Federal Commissioner was accompanied by Rev.Fr.Godspower Amele who also Prayed for the family and handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the family.
