Breaking : LASU Elevates Abiodun Akinpelu Denloye, PhD to Full Professor status.

Abiodun A. Denloye, Ph.D is a Zoologist specialized in medical and Applied Entomology as well as Environmental Toxicology, with strong passion for Biosafety, Biosecurity (Biorisk) Management. He studied at Lagos State University (LASU) (B. Sc. Hons) and University of Lagos (M.Sc, Ph.D), Nigeria. Denloye lived a life through poultry and livestock farms: First right from a tender age he had the task of tendering the homestead poultry house, and then for his first job post-National Youth Service which is mandatory in Nigeria, he worked as Farm Supervisor in an expansive farm overseeing the care of poultry, piggery and mixed crop farm. The foregoing had endeared him headlong to the need for animal, human and environmental health in one piece.
Thus, the stage was set for him to become a biosafety and biosecurity crusader. He served as a Reporter/Researcher and rose through the ranks to become Associate Editor with the defunct Concord Group covering Science, Health and Environment issues before he joined the academia on full time. He has collaborated with academics across various departments including Fisheries, Chemistry and Botany LASU and other universities as well as researchers at the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) for studies on insecticidal potency of plant natural products, environmental toxicology, pollution, management of biomedical wastes for over 20 years. His pioneering efforts contributed to the formation of the Nigeria Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) in 2010. He was the pioneer Secretary of NiBSA and now the President. He is a well grounded Biosafety expert as an International Foundation for Biosafety Associations (IFBA) Certified Biorisk Management Professional, IFBA Certified Biosecurity Professional, Certified Biorisk Management trainer with access to Global Biorisk Management Curriculum (GBRMC) Library. Also, he is a certified Trainer and Shipper of Biological Samples following training by experts from International Air Transportation Association (IATA). In addition, he is well versed in deploying the science and skills underpinning decision-making in respect of the biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), having trained at different times at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Trieste, Italy. He creates time to engage in birding, and enjoys reading, writing, and travelling as his hobbies. His forte is service, creating platforms for people to express themselves and bringing up opportunities in place of despair. He is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (FESN), Fellow of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (FNiBSA) and Fellow of the Society for Educational Administration of Nigeria (FSEAN).

Abiodun Akinpelu DENLOYE PhD, a Medical and Applied Entomologist in the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Lagos State University, LASU has been just been elevated to the rank of a Full Professor by the University's Governing Council. He is the first in the field of Entomology to be made a Professor in LASU.
