LASU Gets the first Female Professor in Analytical/ Environmental Chemistry

Prof. (Mrs.) Yusuf Kafeelah Abosede (Ph.D) a professor of Chemistry with special interest in Analytical Environmental Chemistry, obtained the BSc (honours), and MSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She later obtained Ph.D.in Chemistry from University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
She had her mandatory National Youth Service Corps at Nigeria Army School of Education (NASE), Sobi Ilorin Kwara, State. She started her first job post-NYSC with the Lagos State Schools’ Management Board as a Teacher, and later joined Lagos State Schools’ Management Board. She also served as a Part-time Public analyst in Faskol Chemical Services Ltd.
Prof K. A Yusuf passion for teaching continues as she joined the services of the Lagos State University as a full-time lecturer. She has held several professional and administrative positions in LASU as the Ag, HOD, Department of Chemistry, member of Business committee of Senate, Faculty representative, and Assistant Director of Agege & Festac Campuses of the then LASU External System among others.

Prof. Kafeelah YUSUF is a member of many professional organizations, among which are Royal Society of Chemistry UK, Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria, Chemical Society of Nigeria, and Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World. She has inter collaborations with many departments (e.g., Botany, fisheries, Biochemistry, Microbiology.), Faculties and Universities with special interest for pollution studies.
This distinguished Scientist is known for very brilliant academic work, and she has published articles in many reputable journals in the area of Analytical/Environmental Chemistry. She has also contributed chapters in some textbooks.

Yusuf, Kafeelah Abosede (Ph.D), a beneficiary of many research grants has just been elevated to the rank of a full Professor by the Governing Council of the Lagos State University.
She is the first Prof of Chemistry in the area of Analytical/Environmental Chemistry, in the department and the second female Prof. in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Lagos State University.
