 UNIUYO Model Hostel A Milestone On FG Housing Plans — NDDC Boss

Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Efiong Akwa, has stated that the Commission’s 1000-bed space students hostel at the University of Uyo is a milestone on the Federal government's housing programme for the region.

Akwa said the ultramodern hostel, which contains an embankment with stone pitch around the buildings, flood control drainages, parking lot of over 5000sqm and access roads behind the car park, meets the standard of the public heath housing law, as well as the goal of the National Social Housing Programme of the Federal Government.

"This is one of the components of President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic sustainability plan, which is to make decent shelter available and affordable to all Nigerians," the NDDC boss said during an inspection of the facility in Uyo.

He added: “The decision of the NDDC to complete and commission this 1000 bed space hostel is in line with the directives of President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Minister for Niger Delta affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to the Commission to ensure the completion of projects that touch the lives of the people of the Niger Delta."

Akwa expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and disclosed that the complex, which also boasts of two tennis courts each for males females, two standby soundproof Perkins generators, two borehole systems with 20,000 gallons capacity overhead tank, fiirefighting equipment system and solar energy Street light to complement the generating system, will be commissioned later in the month.
