The Executive and leadership of NUJ, Rivers State chapter hosted the Hon Commissioner of Public Complaints Commission in Rivers State and his team to an interactive session at its Secretariat in Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
After introduction and pleasantries, The indefatigable Commissioner elaborated the importance and essence of good journalism to our national development. He thanked them for their contribution thus, and prayed them to do more in quality rather than quantity of news they dish to the public, especially on areas where government is striving to better our collective challenges. He equally urged NUJ to spread information that would foster unity in our society and need to partner PCC.
In his words: "We appreciate role of the Press in a Democratic Dispensation. As the Chairman and Coordinator of journalists in Rivers State, you are a defender of human right which also falls within the purview of PCC"
"PCC is an agency of government whose service is absolutely free. Our primary responsibility is to fight administrative injustice and reduce crisis in the society through alternative dispute resolution."
Unfortunately, some people especially at the rural areas are not aware that they can get justice free of charge through PCC and that's where you come in. We seek for partnership in cascading the activities of PCC to the nooks and cranies of Rivers State".
In response, the NUJ through it's chapter Chairman, Paul Bazia appreciated the PCC team and promised to give wider coverage on news that pertains the Commission.
Further he said, "recently I am hearing and learning about the activities of PCC again in the State. Commissioner, you're doing a lot to better Rivers State in your capacity. We will support you. I want to call on the Rivers State Government and Corporate Organizations in Rivers State to support and encourage PCC. Please involve us in your programs".
