The APC South South Zonal Secretary Hon. David Okumgba has reacted to the Assassination attempt claim by the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon Samuel Nwanosike. Statement released by the
APC South South Zonal Media Department reads :
The unfortunate reported assassination attempt on the lives of some members the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, of Rivers state, the APC South South Zonal Secretary, Hon. David Okumgba wholeheartedly condemns.
Sympathizing with those who were affected by the said devilish attack, by unknown gunmen, who stormed the venue of a PDP event, where innocent potential voters, were allegedly being hoodwinked to release their Permanent Voters Cards information in exchange for cash, Okumgba, in strong terms regrets the attack by the assailants.
However, Okumgba, frowned at the attempt by the Rivers PDP to drag in the respected names of prominent APC leaders in Ikwerre LGA and the State, including the Minister for Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers APC Governorship Candidate, Pst.Tonye Cole, APC Candidate for the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Barr. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi, Leader of the party in Ikwerre LGA, Hon.Chibuike Ikenga and Hon. Chukwudi Dimkpa, whom they are falsely accusing of masterminding the attack on the PDP members, yesterday, November 14, along Omademe/Ipo Road in Ikwerre LGA, which he said is an apparently failed attempt to divert attention and deceive the public from the real story and cause of the issues which resulted to the attack.
He stated that”It's a known fact that Rivers PDP is a party that harbors and encourages the activities of known criminal elements, Cultists and Militants in the state, many of whom they recruited and used against the APC in Rivers state before, during and after the 2015 general elections, an election that was largely characterized with high scale of PDP sponsored violence.
“It is not in dispute that after the 2015 elections, leaders of these secret cult and militant groups, who on behalf of the PDP, perpetrated and orchestrated the violence, and were openly rewarded with juicy political appointments and contracts, which emboldened their criminal coast and activities.
“The monsters so created by the PDP, obviously grew above the control of their PDP masters, which necessitated the failed "Rivers Amnesty programme", though the amnesty programme was a ploy by the PDP led Rivers state government to shield the criminal gangs and their kingpins from the arms of the law, many of whom are on the security wanted list for numerous crimes.
“Today, these monsters are obviously at loggerheads with their erstwhile benefactors and principals.
“Rivers PDP must face their music and leave Rivers APC and her leaders out of the ensuing dilemma”, he reiterated.
The APC South South Secretary categorically stated that the APC is a peaceful political party, without links to any cult group or militant leaders like the Rivers PDP is known for.
“Consequently, sponsoring media propaganda and pointing filthy accusing fingers at APC leaders in Rivers state, in connection to this case is uncalled for, unacceptable and an attempt to distort facts and deceive the unsuspecting public”, he chided.
Okumgba called on all security and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident at hand, expose the immediate and remote causes of the said attack and also identify the assailants and their sponsors, while remaining vigilant, as this may be a fresh ploy by the PDP to begin another chain of violence against the Rivers APC and her teeming supporters and members, all in a bid to scare them away from using the only known available weapon by the APC, which is the weapon of the ballot paper, in the forthcoming general elections.
