A New Beginning : Love Like Jesus

The Easter season commemorates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death and the beginning of a new relationship between God and man referred to as the new covenant. By His Resurrection, He gave victory over eternal separation from God to all who put their faith and trust in him. That is the new covenant - everlasting life .


Unfortunately, this year’s celebrations will be different from the conventional manner due to the threat of Coronavirus (COVID19), which poses danger to human health. Remarkably , it doesn’t erode the essence and messages of the season ,so let the COVID19-occasioned lockdown be an opportunity for sober reflection on our relationships with God and our Neighbours, bearing in mind that It is love for mankind that made Jesus Christ yield to the Cross.if indeed we are true followers of CHRIST, it is expected that we exhibit Love like Him in all we do .

This season is very challenging because of the peculiar situation we have found ourselves. But as we are true followers of Christ , I urge us to demonstrate the true essence of our discipleship by reflecting and acting upon the key messages of Obedience , Forgiveness, Love and Sacrifice.

I also encourage us all to make necessary sacrifices as CHRIST did for the sake of humanity; let us observe the health protocols recommended by the World Health Organization ( WHO) and the Federal government. May it be a rare opportunity for us to show love to one another , making supplications for each other. May it also be a time to reflect on the transient nature of life here and the eternity that awaits us all .

I am deeply concerned that a few state Governors (including my home state, Rivers) who may have been ill-advised, have lifted the ban on lockdown (albeit temporarily) to enable people observe religious celebrations in large gatherings during this period. This is a serious danger we cannot afford. I recognize the fact that God is Almighty and can do everything, but HE clearly stated in the Holy Book (Ecclesiastics 10:10) that WISDOM is profitable to direct. I am also happy that the leadership of different Churches have issued notices of their commitments to observing the social distancing and lockdown protocols.

It is my prayer that God sees us through this challenge as HE has always done and we will continue to live for His glory. Let us love each other and serve humanity sincerely from the depth of our heart. We are obviously greater together and nothing whatsoever should separate us from the love of God .
